Flowers have a magical way of capturing the beauty of each season. Whether you’re looking for the perfect bouquet, planning a wedding, or simply refreshing your home with seasonal blooms, choosing the right flowers can make all the difference.
As a florist, one of my jobs is guiding customers to the best flowers available throughout the year. Sometimes, you may want a certain flower which isn't in season, and that could mean having to import them specially from another country and paying a premium. This isn't sustainable economically or environmentally. If we can source the flower locally, it wont last as long or be as vibrant as it would be if it was in season. Sometimes, the flower just isn't available to use! By understanding seasonal availability means that together, we can pick the freshest, most vibrant blooms for every season.
Spring Flowers: A Celebration of New Beginnings

Spring is all about renewal, and flowers during this season are bright, fragrant, and full of life. As the weather warms up, nature comes alive with blossoms that symbolize growth and new beginnings. Some spring flowers are delicate and don't flower for very long; think Magnolia, Peonies, Cherry Blossom.
Best Spring Flowers:
Tulips – A springtime classic that comes in nearly every color. They represent love and cheerfulness.
Daffodils – These bright yellow flowers symbolize rebirth and are often the first sign of spring.
Hyacinths – Their sweet fragrance makes them a wonderful addition to any arrangement.
Peonies – Luxurious and romantic, peonies bloom for a short period but are well worth the wait.
Cherry Blossoms – While not traditionally used in bouquets, their soft pink petals are a breathtaking symbol of the season.
Spring Tip: Mix pastels and bright hues for a fresh, cheerful bouquet that captures the energy of the season. Adding a spring wreath to your door or creating a small indoor arrangement of garden bulbs can really celebrate the season.
Summer Flowers: Bold and Vibrant Blooms
With longer days and plenty of sunshine, summer flowers are at their peak in terms of color and variety. This is the best time for bold, tropical, and sun-loving blooms.

Best Summer FlowersSunflowers – The ultimate summer flower, symbolizing happiness and warmth.
Roses – While available year-round, roses thrive in summer gardens.
Dahlias – These stunning flowers come in a variety of sizes and colors, adding drama to any arrangement.
Lavender – Known for its calming scent, lavender adds beauty and fragrance to summer bouquets.
Hydrangeas – Large, lush blooms that make a statement in any floral display.
Summer Tip: Opt for hardy flowers that can withstand heat, and keep arrangements hydrated to maintain their freshness.
Autumn Flowers: Warm and Earthy Tones
As the leaves change color, autumn flowers take on rich, warm hues. This season is all about deep reds, oranges, and golden yellows, creating cozy and rustic floral designs.

Best Autumn Flowers:
Chrysanthemums – A fall favorite, symbolizing longevity and joy.
Marigolds – Their vibrant orange and yellow petals bring warmth to any bouquet.
Zinnias – Long-lasting and colorful, they add a playful touch to fall arrangements.
Dahlias – Continuing from summer, dahlias remain a popular choice with their bold colors.
Celosia – Also known as cockscomb, this unique flower has a velvety texture and comes in fiery shades.
Autumn Tip: Combine flowers with seasonal elements like dried wheat, berries, or eucalyptus for a rustic, autumnal feel.
Winter Flowers: Elegant and Festive Choices
Even in the coldest months, there are beautiful flowers to brighten up the season. Winter blooms tend to be elegant and festive, often paired with greenery for a timeless look.

Best Winter Flowers:
Poinsettias – The quintessential Christmas plant, available in red, white, and pink.
Amaryllis – These dramatic flowers make a stunning holiday centerpiece.
Holly and Berries – Ok, so technically not a flower, but I couldn't mention winter without including this foliage! Perfect for adding a festive touch to winter arrangements.
Paperwhites – Delicate white blooms with a lovely fragrance, which are related to the Daffodil.
Camellias – Blooming in winter, these flowers add a romantic and elegant touch.
Winter Tip: Incorporate evergreens like pine and cedar into floral arrangements for a seasonal, long-lasting display.
